Subject:
Good Sound. Minimal Crowd Noise
Elliot's voice is clear and there's hardly any interference from the crowd. Most of the Elliott Smith shows I've sampled on the Archive are marred by a constant chatter from the audience or inappropriate hoots and hollers from a couple rowdy (read: drunk) observers. This recording is a pleasant change - Elliott, his guitar and a room full of people intent on hearing great music.
There's a bit of scratchiness between songs and heavily during the intro to the set. But, if anything, this only lends an authentic quality to the recording, almost mimicking a piece of vinyl and its needle.
After combing through other Elliott Smith shows, hoping for one that wasn't tinny or saturated with public conversation, I think I've found a gem: 9 beautiful, bare songs from one of the most brilliant songwriters any of us are likely to hear in our lifetime.
